It’s time to turn words into action for wild animals

The government is failing to protect wild animals from cruelty

Two years ago, the Animals (Low-Welfare Activities Abroad) Act became law, which was a major step towards ending cruel tourist attractions where animals suffer for entertainment. But since then, nothing has changed.

The Act should stop companies from selling and promoting activities like elephant rides, captive dolphin shows and lion cub petting to customers in England and Northern Ireland. But because the government still hasn’t listed which activities it will ban, not one animal is protected.

Meanwhile, travel giants like TUI, Klook and GetYourGuide continue profiting from suffering. Elephants are beaten and chained to give rides. Dolphins are trapped in barren tanks hundreds of thousands of times smaller than their natural habitat. Lions are drugged and used as photo props for tourists.
