Cruel tourist activities
Wild animals suffer every year due to cruel tourist activities like elephant riding, dolphin performances, and tiger cub petting. The Animals (Low Welfare Activities Abroad) Bill would ban the sales and promotion of low welfare wildlife attractions abroad, in England and Northern Ireland, to prevent companies profiting from unethical practices.
Trophy hunting
The Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill, debated on the same day, would ban the import of hunting trophies into the UK from endangered species. It will help deter sick hunters from their recreational slaughtering of wild animals.
Across the world, wild animals and their habitats are treated as commodities and ruthlessly exploited on an industrial scale.
With the report stage and third reading, this is the last chance for MPs to back these Bills before they go to the House of Lords. Because these are Private Members' Bills and not government Bills, we need a huge show of support to help make sure they become law.
Wild animals have a right to a wild life, free from any form of exploitation.
