We are devastated that the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill did not pass in the last parliamentary session after it was deliberately blocked by a small minority of pro-hunting Lords and the bill has now not been included in the King’s Speech.
This is very disappointing news as trophy hunting is incredibly cruel and an unacceptable approach to wildlife conservation and sustainable development efforts. It is an inhumane practice where animals like lions are killed for sport and entertainment.
The 2019 Conservative manifesto pledged to ban the import of hunting trophies into Great Britain. Sadly, the government has, once again, squandered an opportunity to build on the UK’s legacy as a world leader in animal welfare. This is despite all political parties and the overwhelming public (86% of voters) supporting a ban.
The UK is a nation of animal lovers, which rejects the senseless killing of endangered species for sport.
By taking action, you can help put an end to the inhumane practice of importing hunting trophies into Great Britain.
So please send a pre-written message to your local MP and demand that this bill be introduced in their party’s next manifesto.
