Every day, thousands of animals are forced into the multi-billion pound global trade in wildlife – killed for food, harvested for traditional medicine, traded as 'exotic' pets or forced into a life of suffering in entertainment. At World Animal Protection we believe that all wild animals have the right to a wild life. With your help, we work to expose the truth behind these cruel industries, to protect wild animals from exploitation and keep them in the wild where they belong.
Industries that profit from exploiting wild animals go to great lengths to conceal the suffering and abuse that goes on behind the scenes.
Many people have ridden an elephant or watched a dolphin show and then felt uncomfortable by the way the animal was treated and wished that they had never taken part. Others may have owned an ‘exotic pet’ and learned the hard way just how challenging it is to look after them properly. No matter how well-intentioned pet owners are, the complex behavioural, social and physiological needs of wild animals cannot be met in unnatural, captive environments at home.
You can help us to protect them by sharing your experience and helping others make better-informed decisions.
